The Kia K9 Sedan Just Launched in South Korea

Consider yourself to be a connoisseur of luxury cars? Then you owe it to yourself to check out the 2013 Kia K9. An all-new, full-size, flagship model, it represents the future of the company's design and much more. It recently launched overseas in South Korea, and the company is already planning a U.S. version. Only it won't launch under the name "K9." Kia has another name in store for it upon its American release, but they haven't said what it is yet.

What Kia has made clear, however, is that they're setting their targeting the kind of competition that one might not consider to be the company's main rival at the moment. "K9 is a clear signal of our intention and determination to compete head-to-head with the European luxury brands,"1 explains Kia Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer.

This makes perfect sense too. When the Kia K9 was first unveiled as the Kia GT Concept at the 2012 New York International Auto Show, members of the press were easily mistaking its elegant design for that of a BMW or Maserati. And now that the vehicle has been released in its final production form, it's even more breathtaking than ever imagined.

And inside? It continues to impress with the kind of luxurious comfort and convenience you'd expect. It includes a 12.3-inch Thin Film Transistor LCD cluster; twin 9.2-inch monitors in the back; and a remarkable 17-channel, 17-speaker Lexicon sound system.

What's more, the Kia K9 isn't all looks and comfort; Kia has managed to pack some serious performance under the hood too. Specifically, the Kia K9 rides on a rear-wheel drive platform that's powered by a 286-horsepower, 3.8-liter Lambda V6 engine and eight-speed automatic transmission.
